The DS Challenge
Flatten It!
Final Extension! I'm giving it one last shot before I let this challenge run it's course. I know I've been extending it a lot (probably too much) so I will let it end at it's current set deadline. And due to the low level of interest in this challenge, I probably won't have another Challenge after this.
As we all know, Blender is a program for 3D models, scenes, animations, and so on. We also know that Blender is capable of much more that just that. For this challenge, rather than creating a 3D scene, we are to try something that most Blender users probably have never bothered trying or maybe even thought about - flattening everything out. Basically, your restriction for this challenge is that every object in your scene must be 2D.
More specifically:
- - All your objects (if any) may have only 2 dimensions - meaning no thickness and no warping, all flat.
- - You can orient your flat objects in any way you like. Rotate, Scale, Move, and position them however you like.
- - Lamps and cameras are ok.
- - Aren't sure if your scene conforms to the rules or have further questions? Contact me and I'll be more than happy to let you know.
Don't forget! I made these challenges to get people to think outside the box and learn something new. Sure, you can make a 3D model, separate all the flat pieces and still be allowed to enter the Challenge, but you don't learn anything. This is your chance to learn something new, whether it is a new style, a new workflow, or finally getting around to learning how to use a certain portion of Blender. Who knows, you might stumble upon something that will completely change how you use Blender.
Prize: Introducing Character Animation with Blender, 2nd EditionDeadline: September 8th, 2011 11:59:59 PM EDT
General Rules
- Must use Blender
- External Rendering is allowed
- Supplemental use of Photoshop/GIMP etc is also allowed
- Any version of Blender is allowed
- Only Still Images
- Sorry, no animated GIFs
- All restrictions must be met in order to qualify
- Entries must be submitted prior to the deadline - No Exceptions.
- Each entry must be approved after submission. This prevents possible spam, accidental double posts, and obvious rule-breakers from making a mess.
Choosing the Winner
Choosing the winning entry of the DS Challenge involves a combination of voting and judging. For the most part, voters choose the winner of the challenge.
Voting- Voting lasts one week and begins immediately after the entry deadline.
- Everyone is allowed to vote once, for as many entries as they like.
- Each entry is given one point per vote.
- Judging is mainly in place to keep the voting in check. Having a judge prevents errors caused by vote 'stuffing' or potential errors causing incorrect vote counts.
- The Judge(s) will choose the top 5 entries based on how well and creatively the restrictions we dealt with, how aesthetically pleasing the entry is, as well as any technical aspects of the scene.
The winner is the entry with the most votes and is one of the top 5 entries chosen by the judge(s). So, the person with the most votes won't necessarily win, nor will the top entry chosen by the judge(s) necessarily win.
Also, the winner will be required to send their blend file used in your image in order to verify the restrictions have been met.
